They're using the recommended 21 day acclimation period as a bargaining chip to get out of playing preseason games is what it sounds like.... what is exactly this 21 day acclimation period anyway??? These are professional athletes for god sake 99% of them stay in shape year round. 21 days to acclimate? To what?
I don't buy that spin my friend. I think they are genuinely concerned about safety issues. Many of these guys have family. They want safety. They BOTH do not want to play in pointless pre-season games that don't mean anything, AND want to heed the NFL's own people's medical advice about the acclimation period.
I never accept the view that automatically, players's motives are to be doubted while the league and owners get a pass. I know it's popular but there's no good reason for it. And that we just scoff at them and laugh at them for having genuine player-oriented concerns.
The Rams have guys like Goff, Kupp, Donald, and Hekker tweeting about this, all saying the same things. Team leaders with standing and respect. I can't see dismissing them as a bunch of hucksters.
As I understand it, a 21 day acclimation period is where they build up to padded practices. The teams are isolated with no contact with any outsiders, including other teams, so that if can be determined whether each team is negative. The league's medical people--outside experts they hired--did not "suggest" that, they listed it as a primary recommendation.
