Pulmonologists are saying that some people who recover from COVID end up with irreversible lung damage. Maybe none of them know irreversible lung damage when they see it, but some of them are performing lung transplants on these patients. My money is on 'they aren't wrong'.

Now, if you're talking about how small pox causes shingles years later or how cold sores relate to the herpes simplex then sure, those answers are years away.
