How soon after exposure and infection can you reliably expect a positive nasal swab test?

If you are going to show symptoms (which not everyone does) they can show up anywhere from 3 to 14 days after you are exposed, though symptoms typically appear within four or five days after exposure.
A person with COVID-19 may be contagious 48 to 72 hours before starting to experience symptoms. Most people with COVID-19 who have symptoms will no longer be contagious by 10 days after symptoms resolve. So that's a 12 to 13 day window where someone is contagious.
