Yes, the 2011 team had a lot of injuries, but I was interested in how those injuries affected the roles Kendricks, Quinn, Pettis, and Salas played. Here's what I found.
Kendricks was the #2 TE behind Hoomanawanui coming out of camp. Hoomanawanui was questionable/doubtful/probable the first 5 weeks of the season and then was IR'd the final 6 games of the season. Kendricks served as the #1 TE with 28 catches (4th highest total on the team), followed by Bajema with 9 and Hoomanawanui with 7.
Quinn was the #2 RDE behind Hall. Hall missed one game all season so Quinn's playing time seems to be just part of a normal rotation rather than as an injury replacement. (edit: Quinn got 1 start in 2011, I assume the game Hall missed.)
Pettis was the #2 slot receiver behind Amendola after the Rams released Avery. Amendola played 1 game in 2011 and caught 5 passes. Pettis took over as the slot receiver, got 3 starts, played 12 games, and caught 27 passes, tied for 5th most on the team.
Salas was the #3 outside receiver behind Clayton and Alexander. Clayton only played 2 games and Alexander played 10. The Rams moved Gibson from slot to WR and traded for Lloyd: between those 2 and Alexander they got 24 starts. Salas never started, only played 6 games (missing 9 others with injuries), and caught 27 passes (in 6 games!), tied for 5th most on the team.
