I really think the optical effect of the horn design is intended to be seen from a distance, i.e., from the stands or on broadcast media. You notice it more looking at the helmet from the front.
You may be right about the distance thing but I think they just got it "wrong". I get what they "tried" to do and maybe it would've been cool if it worked, but...it didn't. lol IMO, the horn is neutered and broken into 2 pieces. What a shame.
You are right though. From the seats at the top of the stadium, I bet you can't even notice the broken, neutered horn! The further away I am, the better it looks. In fact, it looks great when my eyes are closed!

“Well, the color is good, I like the metallic blue,” Youngblood recently said while laughing, via NFL Journal. “The horn is terrible. It looks like a ‘C.’ When I first saw it on the logo I honestly thought it was a Charger logo.
“Now when I see it on the helmet, it just isn’t a ram horn. There is no distinct curl like a mature ram horn. I don’t know how the Rams could get that wrong. That is your symbol and it has been for what? Seventy years or more? Longer than I have been alive? It’s just not us, it’s not the Rams.”---Mr. Ram Jack Youngblood
