I'm so glad we sent this crybaby home 2 years ago. Really relish that win now.

I believe that Drew Brees is doing what a lot of people are when it comes to Kap - conflating to different issues.

Kap (and others) took a knee precisely to protest the kind of mistreatment many African Americans experience at the hands of some police officers.

Brees consciously or not has decided to interpret the action as a protest against the military. He's free to do so if he likes, but it looks as though he's avoiding (or doesn't understand) Kap's purpose. If it's the latter...he's not alone and I'm wouldn't jump on his back so quickly.

Thus the reason he should be able to discuss this with others he trusts to have such a conversation. I'm sure there are several current/former teammates he can speak with.

He listened to members of his team...

...and thought about it all again.

<snipped>

In an attempt to talk about respect, unity, and solidarity centered around the American flag and the national anthem, I made comments that were insensitive and completely missed the mark on the issues we are facing right now as a country. They lacked awareness and any type of compassion or empathy.

Thanks for posting this.

If I'm not mistaken, Brees is a former Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year recipient (or at least a finalist) so his ability to reflect on his prior comments and clarify them isn't surprising. And I'm glad that he had the opportunity to hear from/speak to the people who know him best.
