Well, I believe that that's your interpretation of what he meant (and you may be right). But what I'm trying to say is...jumping on someone, without first trying to engage them meaningfully, typically results in them retreating to their figurative corner (where they shut down and refuse to speak/listen).
I was watching the Rich Eisen Show earlier and I heard that the Saints were holding a team meeting where they might discuss some of these issues in the same way McVay and the Rams did. Hopefully, it will do some good.
