This is maybe one of the craziest things, I have ever said, but that 13-3 season on paper is one of the best jobs coaching in NFL history. And That team was GOD awful and almost made it to the superbowl. Yet, in the big picture this was the worst thing that could ever happen. Now, they have this false sense of security that it worked and they are on the door step when in reality, it was smoke and mirrors with Rodgers making something out of nothing with a good defense to just sneak by in so many games. The team overachieved largely because of Rodgers and a good defense.
As we saw with the Titans, the Bills, and the Packers, playing that boring pound and grind and don't turn the ball over and play good defense can make you a winning team, but when you start playing other winning teams, you have to be able to make plays and this is where this coach is going to fall flat on his face, especially after he loses Rodgers who allows him to piddle around and Rodgers to make enough plays on 3rd and long to bail him out.
I am pro team vs pro player and pro coach in most situations, but this is too much. Rodgers threw 54% of his received passes to players that were not drafted in the NFL. Street Free Agents. The team cannot beat elite teams without the ability to match them with making game changing plays and they draft a QB in the first round.
Just trade Rodgers and move on is what should happen. Go play your Buffalo Bill style of play without Rodgers and see that 13-3 record drop like a rock. It is really kind of disgusting as a NFL fan as I am not even a Green Bay Packer fan to watch an end of a career in that mess in Green Bay that is about to surface.
54% of the receptions to street free agents. Their receiving core almost matches the Rams from 2007 - 2016 with guys like Gibson and Amendola and others after them.
So how this will most likely play out is more overachieving with Rodgers until he regresses even more with age, making the playoffs and losing in the first round to follow by a drop of record below 500 and a fading away of the best player in NFL history.
Please trade him now.
