Yeah hearing that surprised me because the team doesn't typically throw their players under the bus. But I doubt the player was lying and it doesn't seem that a players would get the overall message wrong since 'we see you as the future' is a simple message.
And since Everett will be a free agent next year, it makes some sense as they typically look to the future one year early.
But the main point I was making is that comment could indicate that they are down on Everett or even if they are not down on him they don't see him in their future plans.
It doesn't have to be lying and yes an eager prospect could get the overall message wrong by reading too much in. It makes no sense that a Rams coach would tell this green prospect they didn't know they could draft that they had future plans for him that involved dumping on an existing player.
The kid has the same coach Higbee did so the TEs were told to watch the way Higbee ran plays. The kid knew who Higbee was in advance. Some Ram could just say to him "yeah you and Higbee would work well together" in a completely offhand way and then this earnest, eager kid blows it up and repeats it to the press.
It is NOT the kind of thing you make a lot out of in a genuine, solid sports article.
