and just to frame where I stand // I'm firmly in the camp of "you WIN the battle along the OL & DL's" you WIN the war
So, most so-called Pundits & certainly RAM Fans who thought the RAMS needed or wanted OL draft help are bias towards the downside of this draft
And honestly, outside of the need for a FEATURED RB I assumed (wrongly), THE RAMS wanted OL help
If I or say you remove that bias of wanting OL and instead look at what the RAMS wanted/needed then there is a way different take on the draft
Akers wasn't rated as a 3rd selection in any sites (that I look at) or even our homegrown talent evaluators (Deadpool Alyo LMU)
He was a SOLID 2nd round pick And this was IMO the highest priority in the draft for the RAMS
EVERYTHING that McVay brings to the table offensively starts with the threat of the run......and the RAMS lacked a proven RB to handle that task
The only issue with this pick was RB Dobbins was still on the board // that I defer to Snead & Company for the pick
Van Jefferson // Exactly the same as far as rankings go In fact he was higher rated almost always than Akers And it seemed the consensus here on this forum that WR was a need (not me though) But, again, obviously the RAMS wanted a WR
Both picks were value-neutral, not reaches and not steals // IMO they were both HR picks based on Talent and RAMS fit/needs and what the RAMS wanted
Lewis This one is a little harder because of I/L Hx // but almost every pundit and certainly I consider this an OUTSTANDING pick with above-average value
If his Hx of IL is a thing of the past (??) Then this may become the best pick talent-wise for the RAMS
Burgess The RAMS needed S to be filled for depth He provides more than that He's going to see a lot of playing time because of his skill set he has
And he certainly is a value pick
Hopkins just a wow here He may be the one of the TOP Steals of the draft The talking heads on the NFL Network even commented on this
And as we know McVay loves his TE's He may have found "his" guy // this is a must need for his offense, the right TE in the plural
Snead and Company played this draft smartly, they let Value/Fit come to them in each of the top RAM picksNo way no how did they reach for any pick at the top of the draft IMOI give the RAMS kudos ++++ for an excellent draft!!
