Fisher & Snead admitted their mistake.
Hmmm, you got a link for that? I remember there being a lot of speculation that they were targeting the LBs but I don't recall that being confirmed by the Rams.
At any rate, assuming that's true, Snead has openly talked about learning from past mistakes. He mentioned the GRob mistake by name, he alluded to other mistakes. The Pead thing was when he was a rookie GM 8 years ago.
Now, the way they move around on draft day to align with value and sometimes they take them a little bit early. Case in point: Everett. They traded back to 44 because 37 was too early for him. They got a 3rd round pick. And then they didn't take any chances by trading back further and selected him at 44 despite some thinking that was about 20 spots too early for him. That extra 3rd rounder is JJ. It worked out pretty well!
The same thing happened with Havenstein. They were accused of taking him about 20 picks too early. They didn't get cute and just took the guy they wanted after a moderate trade down that netted a 3rd round pick.
So the approach has evolved since 8 years ago. Just like players get better after their rookie seasons, so do coaches and GMs. You gotta move past the mistakes of 8 years ago when it's clear the past mistakes aren't being repeated and recent success is much better.
