Just went back and looked at all the first round receivers since 2010

Guess what? You're right! I thought we hit a decent stretch of first round receivers but I'd say 60 percent of the list didn't live up to their pick.

I will say a few things in response to your post though. You can be a deep threat without having top end speed. Mike Evans is an example of that. So the Rams could very well pick a vertical guy who isn't the fastest.

I don't think Kupp and Woods compare to Bruce and Holt because they're not special athletes. They're just very good technicians. But at 6'0 they aren't big catch radius guys and they're not 4.4 speed guys either. So I'm hoping the Rams just get something new to the receiver group. Whether it's speed, size, home run ability after the catch, whatever. There are a lot of guys in this class who offer something our main two don't, and they are good receivers too.

Top taken WRs in the draft regularly fail to become game changers.

But that player can still make a significant contribution
