Top taken WRs in the draft regularly fail to become game changers.

I can't give you stats except this one: ANY 1st round pick has no better than a 50/50 chance of being a contributing starter, and so even fewer as impact players.

I don't like taking WRs in the 1st round. Except for the occasional few, it takes some time before a WR can become an impact player. There's always lots of them in the draft that are overlooked because they lack some element of what GMs think are needed; not big enough, not fast enough, not good enough hands, whatever. But used correctly those flaws can be disguised.

I'd rather take a guy a little later and let him develop. And, if the Rams take any WR in the top 3 rounds I think they need a play making speedster, even if he is a 175 or 180 lb. guy. If he has good hands, good moves, and is tough, then that's fine. Another young Cook would be fine with me.

Rams are going to keep Woods and Kupp around a long time. They are our current Holt and Bruce and barring serial injuries are good for another 5 years.

Just went back and looked at all the first round receivers since 2010

But that player can still make a significant contribution
