DTs have never been able to disrupt offenses the way AD has shown....imo...ever. I have never seen a DT do so on a regular basis until AD came to our team.
It's beyond amazing to have a guy get double & triple teamed and still be in on a play sometimes....or take that many blockers away from other defensive players. AD is a pure gift that keeps on giving as he has a motor that does nOT stop and is one of the most consistent NFL players - at a near impossible position I have ever seen in my lifetime. We have AD for 20m/yr. He's a bargain- especially now that other teams are paying lesser players the same or more!!!
yeah, so I disagree with your thot that AD isn't worth it.
It;s just true--elite DTs are more rare in NFL history than elite qbs.
No offense can afford to let the defender who starts out closest to the ball--ie. the DT obviously--dominate play. A good DT therefore attracts attention at the gameplan level. A great DT faces that and makes plays anyway.
