Did Rams make a mistake?

They told us over and over these contracts they have been signing were with and eye towards the future. How they wrote them and what their options were had to be factored in except for the very worse case scenarios.

Prodction is critical component in any discussion.

We as fans are fickle. I was happy initially to see Gurley paid even more so than Aaron Donald when it comes to impact to our ability to win games. Under that new contract (Gurley) we saw Rams elevate on offense and league wide the discussion was not only affirming but forecasting who was next or should be the next RB to take that crown or money tag. We unfortunately also witnessed Gurley's production dip after the SB season. Production turns our focus towards value. What ever Rams strategy was in July of 2018 became a serious forecasting problem in 2019. This is the nature of the game.

Aaron Donald's contract makes more since today becuase we still have production and in light of the dip in production from Mack in 2019, AD still remains a tremendous value but he must stay healthy.

Jared Goff's contract will be debated but he has youth and position on his side given the fact that we will soon see the 2nd year contracts of other players at the QB postion inflated. The game is changing and the landscape will continue to dictate value of the players contracts and yet even that production will tell us quickly or eventually how much value we are really getting.

Its great to have the highest producing players but the price for production is really high and the price of prestige or bragging rights comes with an even shorter shelf life in most cases.

This is our new reality. We want championships then we have to be able to overcome these things becasue there is no magic elixer. We have to build teams rapidly, cohesively and become less dependent on the ultra stars to do it. We must exhaust our options locating future low priced talent to bolster our depth and schmatically we have to be better or have better answers to our opposition.

Our success has worked against us and we are seeing the reality of the ultra contracts impact on how we look at our team; however if we are building the team right and not reliant on those superstars to be their for the full course we can win and win and continue to win. If we accomplish that none of this will seem to have been by mistake.
