With the way McVay (didn't) use Gurley in scoring situations so often, I believe it was more than the knee that led to his release. The argument of load management makes sense in principal but when you look at how effective Gurley still was near the goal line and still taken out of the game, means to me that his knee is well enough, but there was a clash going on.
