He has never been a prolific pass rusher. I get that. But he hasn't gotten worse since Mack showed up. Why?
Well, in a 34, one of your OLBers is basically the 4th DL, and he goes after the QB, the other usually does not, unless there is a blitz. THe reason DCs like the 34 is that they can basically disguise who their 4 pass rusher is. In a 43, unless you drop a DE into coverage, the 4 guys with their hands in the dirt are the 4 guys coming.
So why in the world would the bears ever send anyone after the QB other then Mack. Guy is allworld and being paid to be a pass rusher. Sure, just to change it up and maybe catch the offense offguard. But thats it. If Im D. Coordinator, its Mack to the QB all day long.
The weirder thing to me what the Bears are doing with Quinn, who isn't a standup, edge bending pass rusher, so why pay Quinn like he is one?
