Namely, how much did Fowler benefit from playing with AD? And I think it’s a huge question, frankly.
It’s not even a question of ‘if’ but rather a question of ‘how much’, IMO. Remember how Fowler’s numbers spiked after joining AD and the Rams?
So, maybe some have put Fowler on a pedestal that he doesn’t quite deserve since he benefited so much from the presence of AD. Let’s see how Fowler does after getting his big 2nd contract in Atlanta and without the presence of AD.
Don’t get me wrong. I liked Fowler, too, but I’m not of the opinion that he was either elite or consistent enough to deserve a $16M per contract. Certainly not by a loaded yet cash strapped team like the Rams.
As to Leonard Floyd? Perhaps he will now benefit from playing alongside AD and we might just be pleased with his ‘20 numbers. I know that saving $6M per has gotta help the Rams cap-wise.
One last thing. Don’t underestimate the Staley input here in Floyd’s selection. Just sayin’.
