Lost three starters, gained zero......man 2020 sucks
Hope they have a plan, so far I'm not liking it.
I'm pretty sure their plan goes like this: they're placing their precious, limited bets on some players, rather than others, and doing so with a mind to the next few years as well as the coming season.
They've been thinking about this for a LOOOOONG time and have a FAR greater sense of the complexity of the decisionmaking than you or I do.
Mind you, there's absolutely no guarantee that it'll work out as they/we hope. An injury, an unexpected retirement, COVID-19, underperformance, bad luck in the draft and/or free agency - any number of factors could undermine their plans and expectations. (E.g., IMO, if the costs of retaining Fowler, if they do, will be such that he'll need to keep improving his game to vindicate the decision. Truth is that none of us, including the Rams braintrust, can be at all certain that will happen. And if he reverts to pre-2019-2020 form? Yikes.) It might also be that if you, or I, were involved in all the discussions, and had all the information they have, we'd have had different preferences.
But this much I'm sure of: They have a plan. It's a thoughtful, well-considered one they believed required letting go such respected assets as NRC, Littleton, and Brockers.
I'm glad to have decision makers who've earned my trust - and am looking forward to seeing how it works out!
