This could very well be a year where they reset their cap situation a bit for the longer term benefit. Does
not mean they will not add several FAs but they may limit themselves to the Matthews and Weddle types that are released elsewhere that they can sign for $3-6M/year. And honestly, if that's the approach I don't blame them. The talent cupboard on this team is far from bare and adding some mid-tier FAs in need areas while focusing on maximizing draft picks between the 2nd-4th rounds could very well work. They have four picks right now between 52 and 137 overall and I will bet they end up with a 5th selection in that range.
Given the 2021 picks they have given up adding two, three, or maybe four comp. picks (including possibly two 3rds) is really not a luxury, it should be a strategic priority.
And again their free agent decisions are not about Fowler, Littleton and Brockers. They are about Fowler, Littleton, Brockers,
Ramsey, Johnson and Kupp. And it is very possible that they are saying, hey, we want and can only keep 3 of those 6- and we want the latter three.
It would not be that surprising to see them let Zuerlein test free agency while looking at the kickers in this Draft (Blankenship, Eberle, etc.) and considering using a 6th rounder on one.
"New faces in the RB room this season" to me means Brown is getting released.
Not a sexy decision, but I agree that Kiser > Hager/Reeder and I'm fine with them giving that role player spot to him with Reeder as the backup.
