Article said Rams have $26 million in cap space.....not sure if accurate
Goff frees up $16 millions with a restructure and Ramsey frees another $3 million with extension putting the Rams at around $45 million
The Rams may very well cut Malcolm Brown (if they draft a RB as insurance for Gurley) and they might trade Havs which has been speculated to free another $5 million...so there you are around $51 million....who knows they might cut Matthews too if they need extra cash so that would hit the $55 million mark
Remember the cap is also projected to go up too.....so that too will also create some space. I am not saying I agree with everything proposed or the numbers are accurate, but it easily doable as a Goff restructure is a no brainer and the Rams mentioned they want to extend Ramsey upon the trade.
Brown and Matthews are not core players and who knows about Havs...to me that is a tricky one. If he was hurt they might keep him, but Evans played much better at a fraction of the cost.
The OvertheCap figures have changed. At the time this article was written - 12/31/19 - the $25.4M number may have been accurate. It's showing $14.7M now. I do believe they will have some rollover money in the $8M neighborhood from the 2019 year but they're not going to start at $25.4M. Spotrac's numbers include the rollover and are showing $21.7M as the starting point.
That said, you're changing what you originally said with getting to $50M from a Goff restructure and a Ramsey extension. That's not possible. But if you had said they could get to $50M by making every single available move to free up space then, sure, that's a possibility. But it's also a very, very small probability. The chance that they want to cut or trade every possible player that could free up money is slim to none.
A Goff restructure is not a no-brainer. It basically kicks the can down the road; it makes future years tougher to juggle. In the past, Demoff has not done this very often. The article didn't explain how extending Ramsey frees up money but I doubt the author has paid attention to the way Demoff usually structures extensions. If he did, the author would know that it's unlikely that a Ramsey extension would free up any money in 2020. Possible? Sure. Probable? Not at all.
I'm aware that the cap is projected to go up. Both Overthecap and Spotrac's numbers have already factored in the projected increase. The point being, we really shouldn't be planning on having $50M to spend in free agency. That's not realistic.
