Since trading him is unlikely and will only net 4mil in savings, why not re-cast him as a 3rd down / goal line / short yardage back. Let Henderson / Draft Pick / UDFA be the early down back - someone with more explosiveness and the threat to take it to the house (no longer Todd). Gurley knows this offense inside and out (no need to have a FA hit the books), is good in pass protection, has a nose for the end zone, and, until this season, was a pass-catching threat. Let him leak out into the flat and catch balls with room to lumber up to speed. Finally, with this new role you can throw the snap count thing out the window and just use him as the situation dictates.
