for Peters going from a mediocre DB, to one of the best in the matter of 1 week after a trade.
Or Ramsey going from the best press man corner in the game to a guy that looked completely and utterly lost and a step behind. And I won't listen to any argument that starts with, but he had to learn a new scheme, midseason. Because if an idiot like Peters could do it, so should Ramsey.
Or what about all the endless double and triple teams on AD with seemingly no answer on how to generate a pass rush or get him singled up.
No its Wade, just being too stubborn to adapt to his players or not understanding how to get the most out his players.
I like Wade, but this year was a huge fail for him. No way around it. It was a huge fail for McVay as well as he never adjusted either, and instead just force fed defenses a steady dose of 11 personnel until it was too late. But like I said, he isn't falling on the sword. At least not this year.
And Weddle can go, I had high hopes for him, but he has been a liability back there and I cant wait for JJ to come back.
We agree on some things, disagree on others.
I think Weddle can have something to do with the miscommunications in the secondary. It was his job to get things lined up and it seemed all too often he failed in that.
OTOH, the Peters issue I place squarely at Wade's feet as you do. I was never for them trading Peters away and was mad when it happened. He was a great player before he came to the Rams and it was Wade's inability to adjust his scheme that made it a failed experiment.
I don't know how to explain Ramsey. To be honest, I was against the Ramsey trade prior to them making it b/c I knew it would come at an exorbitant cost - it did - and b/c I was never convinced that he was the best press man corner in the game. Not saying he's not; I just didn't have enough knowledge about that. I hadn't seen him very much so all I had to go on was PFF's rating which was just ok. If you tell me that you've seen him a lot and he was the best in the game then I'll believe you. But I gotta say, him not looking other worldly already matches my perception of him.
I am unclear on why Wade didn't immediately switch to all man coverage as soon as he had Ramsey. Hill excels at man too and played really well down the stretch so he had 2 men who excel in press coverage. It seems all the lapses happened when they were playing zone. Why continue with the zone? That's on Wade IMO. Maybe he doesn't want to drastically change things up mid stream? IDK...
As for the pass rush, how much of it do you put on the players.? The DC's scheme can only put them in the best position. If AD is doubled, tripled, or quadruple teamed, the rest have one on one match ups or a free run to the QB. A DC can't do more than that. Moreover, we were top 5 in pass rush if I recall correctly.
The main issue was we got ran on and ran over on occasion. A lot of that is lacking the personnel in the front 7. In hindsight, playoff Suh really helped.
Point being, I'm not convinced that getting rid of Wade will be a step forward and it could very easily be a step back. I'm not totally against it because something needs to change but they should be very careful to make the right moves not just any move out of a knee jerk desire for heads need to roll due to the results.
