Yup. 1978. Big article in SI on it at the time. I do remember Georgia saying good things about Allen after CR died.
And I remember that about Walsh, although at the time I wasn’t pushing for him, but I wasn’t happy about Malavasi. I liked Klosterman until he botched the Earl Campbell draft trade.
I wanted Bill Walsh really bad at the time (although I was 12) because I felt the Rams needed an offensive coach. Didn't like the Malavasi hire either, but because of firing Allen Roosenbloom had no other alternative, he had to hire within, but Malavasi had interviewed previously and CR went in another direction....The old Houston Oilers got the Los Angeles Rams three times, once with Billy Cannon, then with Earl Campbell and finally with Warren Moon, who the Rams wanted to sign, but the Oilers hired his Coach in Canada Hugh Campbell to seal the deal.
