CR fired Allen before start of 1979 season after players revolted against Allen, calling him crazy. Said Allen was walking around with a life size Roger Staubach doll to focus on beating Staubach and the Cowboys. When Georgia took over Rams she later said CR made a mistake firing Allen, she liked him.
It was before the 78 season as the Rams lost two preseason games to the Patriots & Chargers agreed on the players not liking Allen, however, as to Georgia I know she also stated that CR thought it was a mistake firing Knox and that is why Georgia brought him back in 1992, however, IMO, the mistake Carroll Rosenbloom made was not following his gut on the replacement for Knox, he really liked Bill Walsh, but Walsh wanted GM power too and they already had Klosterman in the role, sure wished they could have worked something out and CR hired Walsh, our lives would be totally different.
Yup. 1978. Big article in SI on it at the time. I do remember Georgia saying good things about Allen after CR died.
And I remember that about Walsh, although at the time I wasn’t pushing for him, but I wasn’t happy about Malavasi. I liked Klosterman until he botched the Earl Campbell draft trade.
