Only three years old back then (Born in 1966) however, done plenty of research and being a historian, I do embrace the philosophy that history does not repeat itself, but it often rhymes. George Allen with his two opportunities as Head Coach of the Los Angeles Rams lost in 67 & 69 on the road accordingly. Then was finally fired by Hall of Fame owner Dan Reeves (no not the Head coach) Daniel Farrell Reeves fired Allen after the 1970 season and hired former UCLA Coach Tommy Prothro before passing away in April of 71.

Robert Irsay was awarded the Rams (through Reeves estate), but traded with renown owner Carroll Rosenbloom (Colts) teams as Irsay took over the Baltimore Colts & Roosenbloom the Los Angeles Rams (Rosenbloom wanted to move to LA for health reasons). Rosenbloom hired Chuck Knox in 1973 and Knox in post season, always played not to lose and could never get his team to the Super Bowl and after six seasons, Rosenbloom fires Knox and brings back George Allen because Rosenbloom felt Allen could beat the Dallas Cowboys, however, even with Allen's success in Washington as he finally got his team to the Super Bowl against the Dolphins in 1972, Allen still had a playoff record of 2-7 to Knox at 3-5 and obviously Rosenbloom felt the same way about George Herbert Allen as Reeves did, firing him after two preseason games of the 1978 season.

The Colts under Irsay move to Indianapolis and the Rams under Carroll Rosenbloom's widow Georgia moves to St. Louis and once again underscoring the Mark Twain quote.

A few related trivia things I remember...

Rams owner Dan Reeves once remarked that he didn’t draft the player and later coach Dan Reeves (who played for the Cowboys and threw go ahead TD pass to Lance Renzel in the ICE BOWL) because they had the same name. Rams owner Reeves later regretted his decision saying “I should have drafted him and changed my name.”

When CR made the swap of Colts for Rams, he was flying back to LA and looking down over mid America said to GM Don Klosterman, “there’s the east coast and the west coast and nothing in between”.

CR fired Allen before start of 1979 season after players revolted against Allen, calling him crazy. Said Allen was walking around with a life size Roger Staubach doll to focus on beating Staubach and the Cowboys. When Georgia took over Rams she later said CR made a mistake firing Allen, she liked him.
