We do NOT have the personnel to run a 4-3 and it'd take a few years to get & train a new group for the switch.
We have now a bunch of OLBs for a 3-4 and will need some 3-Tech DTs to replace Brockers and give us depth - as we have 2 very good NTs in SJD & Gaines.
Smart/Fox/Copeland are 3-4 DEs for us but are marginal and so we should draft some big bodies for the line. IMO - it's easier to find athletic players that are 250-265lbs that can play EDGE LB than it is to find 300lb dancing bears at DTs. I also like the 3-4 for the blitzing possibilities w/stunts/games/twists etc that can be effective at getting to the QB. I just think we should run more blitzes/games though...than Wade has been doing.
Anyway, I like that the 3-4 plays better against the pass with faster LBs. Heck, I'd hire a Steeler or Raven coordinator to replace Wade IF he retires or is not resigned. I do think we have an unusual amount of DB finger pointing & confusion these last few years no matter who's playing DB. I wonder if Wade's concepts are too complicated or what but I don't remember this much confusion on the back7 ...but then other times they are spot on...so I do not know where the breakdowns lie on the defense. McVay & Wade probably do...so they can try and figure that out if Wade is retained.
I'd like to keep our current 3-4 defense and just refine it and get better players for it.
