I don't understand why Goff shouldn't be criticized. You give the other team 10+ points and you deserve criticism. Just like most of the time, he battles with consistency. Even if you want to dismiss the pick-6, it was Goff's poor decision making that led to the grounding call that took the team out of FG range.
The 49ers, right now, aren't a dominant defense. The Saints, Falcons and Rams all moved the ball and scored points on them in recent weeks. They've had just 1 interception the last 6 games before tonight. Twice in the last 3 games they had no sacks.
This wasn't the '85 Bears defense they were facing. Goff made some good passes but he made some poor one's too. It isn't like he played a near-flawless game and just had the unfortunate pick 6. He completed only 58% of his passes, had another interception dropped, the pick-6 and cost the Rams 3 points with his intentional grounding.
The silver lining is that he improved greatly from the first game against the 49ers but he's still got some growing to do. He isn't quite there yet but he does seem to be moving in the right direction.
