It favors good teams that are in weak divisions.
No matter what system you come up with, there will be a possible issue. That's inescapable.Being in divisions, on the other hand, builds in a lot of important things. Among those are these 2--(1) it lessens travel (teams in divisions tend to be in the same region); and (2) it heightens rivalry (having to play the same teams twice lends itself to that).
Plus no one was complaining when the Rams could have taken the division in by going 8-8 in 2010. As it stands the 7-9 Seahawks took the division. That year that meant the 10-6 Giants and 10-6 Bux did not make the playoffs but the 7-9 Seahawks did. I don't recall Rams fans complaining about that then.
