The comment is offensive at it's core personally because it takes away from the the skill and the great year he's having and redefines/includes something else that is a racial quality 'dark skin 'as part of the reason for his success.
There maybe tons who can't feel how it could be deriding commentary for a people to be compared to any dark matter or condition like charcoal or midnight either.
It's tottally a cultural sore spot.
Once you beat on group of people whoever they are if something comes at them that sounds like the same old bile they have a right to question it and complain to it as an affront to them even if it was a verbal trip of the tongue a malaprop.

Lol there are probably many racists out there who don't know it just as there are sexists who absolutely may know it and are fine with it.
The situation feeds on itself and affects societies status quo. It goes on until people stand up.
If the station did nothing complaints ,, justified complaints would have happened.

Where I see common ground is what you said about a cultural sore spot. I have experienced similar, but different, things regarding age and weight. Some things that are said, even without ill intent, make you feel marginalized. Like you don't count as much.So I get that, and thanks again.
