They should have expected not to be as fortunate injury wise, especially on the OL. What they actually expected was that an OL that overperformed for a year and a half and was exposed after the bye and clearly in SB was a good starting point, when in truth it was a problem area that need drastic attention.
I don’t see Whitworth declining as something that should be a surprise to any competent GM. He’s old. I have no idea why Havenstein declined this year. Vinny believes he’s been playing hurt. Bottom line here is that when last seen in the SB we had a healthy OL that played together for 2 years, and got destroyed by the Pats. And we not only didn’t improve it, we weaken it.
Blame whomever you decide, but they botched it.
