I’m a big Snead fan, but I know that he’s not perfect.
He deserves a ton of credit for acquiring personnel that enabled McVay to get us from 4-12 to 13-3 and a SB appearance in just 2 years.
I like a GM that makes bold moves in FA and trades. Not to mention that he excels in the draft with the picks that he has left after trades. I get the strategy of trading away 1sts for proven star players. Up to a point, anyway.
However...
The collaboration of Snead/McVay/Kromer badly miscalculated their OL situation and it’s cost the Rams a shot at a wildcard. A very heavy price, indeed. Hindsight shows the folly of pursuing ‘playmakers’ while gambling on the trenches.
Now the Rams must get back to basics with their OL and DL, too. And there will be many holes created by expected departures of current starters due to cap concerns which will create a VERY challenging offseason.
Snead/McVay need to have a solid draft and FA this coming offseason while McVay and his asst coaches bring the newbies quickly up to speed. If they can handle all of that successfully then I think that they can be serious playoff candidates. But SB favorites doesn’t look to be within their grasp for ‘20, at least to me.
The McVay magic of ‘18 has come and gone because other teams have figured it out and made adjustments. Ravens and Niners are the new darlings. Probably be other new darlings in ‘20. Rams have to run hard just to stay in place (just as all other teams do).
Don’t mean to sound so negative, but this is the way I see the near future.
The good news is that Demoff, Snead, and McVay are a helluva team and will be together for a long, long time. The Rams will be competitive year after year as a result.
Nobody should hold their breath waiting for any of those 3 to leave the Rams.
