There are several issues, and the OL is a convenient scapegoat for most of them.
We all know that the OL is a mess and it indeed has hampered the offense, but it shouldn't mean Goff is throwing 5 picks and 0 TDs in his last 3 games. Goff is a mess. He looks dazed and confused. McVay had to call a time out and call him over to instruct him on the play call. This is year 4, and Goff still isn't getting it. That tells me one of 2 things, either he just doesn't have the capacity to run an offense and read a defense or he's not putting in enough work. Heck, even in garbage time he plays like he's expecting drives to end in failure. Goff is like a salt water fish in an aquarium, when all the conditions are perfect he looks very pretty, but if the temperature or salt is off just a bit, he goes belly up.
Gurley is a shell of his former self. The bad knee has stripped him of his explosion, and now he looks like an old version of OJ Anderson. He is no longer a difference maker. Gurley is a textbook case of why you don't give RBs huge money when you don't have to.
McVay may be trying hard, but he's got a lot to work on in the offseason. He needs a real OC and someone to work with Goff. His team looks like they got fat on the Hollywood diet.
Demoff and Snead have a CAP space problem and limited draft picks. They put a ton of pressure on themselves going forward, leaving themselves scant room for error.
This season is over for the Rams. I would like to see them respond with some fire the rest of the way and show pride in their performance. McVay should at least be able to get that out of his team.
Next year? Who knows. They've got a lot of work to do. Goff needs to totally dedicate himself to getting better. He needs to show that football is the most important thing to him. Show that he has a capacity to work his butt off and not need time off to "clear his mind" as he said after the bye. Does he have it in him? The jury is out on our $130M albatross.
