There's not one thing about my viewpoint that is negative. It merely puts the onus on a player to perform his contractual obligations to his team while finding a way to handle family problems at the same time. It doesn't have to be either/or except in the most dire situations.
And your idea of giving the player the benefit of doubt is OK to a point, but it is entirely emotional. He's missed one game...... and at the last second to boot. But now to apparently be on the road to missing a second game? And his own health and well being are not at issue? Woods is a key player and it's one thing to miss a game due to health issues. Quite another to miss a game because he places a greater priority elsewhere. There are only 16 games in a season. Every game matters.
As I said, none of us know the actual circumstances. So I don't rule out the possibility that his presence with his family or friend determines the life or death of a human being so his presence there is a no-brainer. But it's pretty hard to imagine such a scenario. I guarantee you: he misses this week's game, the mood and tone of McVay is NOT going to remain the same....... especially if the Rams lose.
