We gave up a 5th next year for a 7th in 2022 - did we lose a compensatory pick too?

If Talib had been placed on season ending IR - could his salary not count against this year's cap anymore?

He would be off the books at least at the end of the year - why the rush?

I just don't get what's behind the move.

Thoughts / opinions / ideas are welcome.

Here's my copy and paste from a couple of threads yesterday:

"The cap has a rollover feature. They can elect to rollover any cap money not spent this year.

So if they end the year $10M under the cap, they can have $10M more to spend next year."

If Talib was placed on season ending IR his salary WOULD still count against this year's cap. They don't get out of it just because a player gets injured. There are also limitations on cutting a player that's injured so the best way, and possibly only way, to get Talib's entire remaining salary off their books was to trade him.

I believe they are now approx. $10M under the cap. They'll use that next year instead of squandering it on this years' books.
