We gave up a 5th next year for a 7th in 2022 - did we lose a compensatory pick too?
If Talib had been placed on season ending IR - could his salary not count against this year's cap anymore?
He would be off the books at least at the end of the year - why the rush?
I just don't get what's behind the move.
Thoughts / opinions / ideas are welcome.
Here's my copy and paste from a couple of threads yesterday:
"The cap has a rollover feature. They can elect to rollover any cap money not spent this year.
So if they end the year $10M under the cap, they can have $10M more to spend next year."If Talib was placed on season ending IR his salary WOULD still count against this year's cap. They don't get out of it just because a player gets injured. There are also limitations on cutting a player that's injured so the best way, and possibly only way, to get Talib's entire remaining salary off their books was to trade him.
I believe they are now approx. $10M under the cap. They'll use that next year instead of squandering it on this years' books.
