Although it's usually not wise long term to restructure big contracts like AD, Gurley, Cooks etc. I'm guessing if they were asked after this season to help relieve the 2020 cap they would be willing. I could be way wrong and I realize this discussion is deeper than just that.
What I do know is Demoff and Tony Pastoors have my vote of confidence being able to withstand future cap issues because I believe they are not always as black and white from behind our computer screens and favorite salary cap websites.
I'm not saying they have magic wands or there won't be any loss of key players and depth that hurt the team.
I get the concern about keeping core players and and having flexibility so they don't get in a salary hole they can't climb out for 3 years.
As good as some cap experts are on this board and in the NFL media, I'ts not always as black and white as it appears mathematically when projecting who should be paid, extended, cut or restructured. (other unforeseen intangibles also apply)
I believe with the help of Snead & McVay and other members of the staff, Demoff & Pastoors can see and project the roster 2, 3 & 4 years ahead better than the fans and media can.
Is their current path and model going to crumble in 2021 & 2022 and beyond leaving the Rams a broken team in a salary cap black hole with a depleted having no chance at competing for championships?
We shall see when the time comes.
I'm staying on the boat Rams management is currently sailing with.
The safer & prudent way to manage the salary cap and roster does look very enticing on land though.
