He's made a lot of money in 8 years so while he won't come cheap he may not be necessarily looking for top dollar regardless of location. His best seasons were 2013 and 2017. To me he's always been one of those 'good not great' players and maybe he wants to see things through, into the new stadium, etc. I'm sure the team is waiting to see how the rest of the season plays out with him. He's not yet 29 years old so keeping him for two more years would seem like a safe bet. But not at $11M/year.
If you discount the 2 elite guys who are paid as "best defenders" (Watt and Donald), the top 3/4 DEs are getting around 10-15 M a year. And that's older money, with guys who signed in 2017. It's going to go up.
I don't see how Brockers would settle for less than that range.
But then they don't really have any candidates on hand to replace him. Franklin-Myers was supposed to be that I think and they cut him.
The problem with drafting a starting 3/4 DE is that you better pick him high. They would need a rookie who can start right away. The odds of getting that out of a lower round pick are not good.
If things don't play out right in building the 2020 front 7, it could be a problem. And if they are genuinely considering not signing both Fowler and Brockers, that's 2 big holes to fill.
