Since we're speculating.....
I think Gurley does not like being wrapped in Bubble Wrap.
He is a workhorse back, period. He needs to feel that and know that. He's like a racehorse that wants to lead wire to wire; hold him back and he gets frustrated.
I understand the risks (at least I think I do).
But the Panthers went down this same road with Cam Newton, trying to baby him. The non-running Newton is no Newton at all.
I think it's similar for Gurley. He is not a platoon back, he is the offense focal point. Let him loose and use him.... and use him up.
Let's not forget how well the Rams did in the playoffs with an overweight vet RB who couldn't otherwise find a job. And the was brought on board only because our really good back-up Brown was out for the season. And Kupp was out for the season as well.
Turn Gurley loose and let him play...... until he can't. The boy ain't happy right now.
