That's exactly my point -you saw the head to head on replays and pictures. I did too and agree with the helmet to helmet. But I too was at the game with really good seats to see the play and the only way I could see the helmet to helmet was watching the play on review. My point was that refs don't have the benefit of that review before making the call and whatever call they make cannot be reviewed. So when the rhetorical question is asked: "why do we have refs" the point is that they could have missed the call and had they been able to see it like most of us in "review" they likely would have ruled it correctly.
They definitely missed the call. And I may have misread you. I thought you had said earlier that it was "close" and I took that as meaning borderline. That's why I chimed in. So if that was a misread on my part, apologies.
