I think what the issue with Gurley is has to do with McVay's consistent saying he's fine and we're just trying to fit him in to whatever the defenses are doing. We're managing how we can best use him. Well, McVay has said that the last three games and he said the same thing following the Saints game and the SB. Anyone with a 1st grade education knows something is up and the limited use of a two time MVP simply doesn't square with the notion they are only using him where he can best play (?). They're simply not coming clean and yes it could be Gurley's wishes. But writers are paid to look beyond coach speak and this business about just using him in spots that best justify his running ability doesn't sit well. Especially when its totally different than how Gurley was used in the past.
Personally, I wish McVay would simply say: "Look-we want to protect our back who does have issues with his knee. So we are not going to be playing him as often as we did in the past. But our plan is to make sure he is as healthy as he can be when and if we are in the playoffs". Now to me-that is just brute honesty and would be respected by all reporters covering the team. I get the criticism. Or maybe, out of respect for Todd's wishes-assuming that's the case-"We're not going to answer any questions about the number of plays or the type of plays our running back is in-period."
I think we said pretty much the same thing.
