All off-season McVay had Goff and the offense working on responding to certain defensive looks, and to going through progressions more quickly when they saw post-snap an unexpected defensive coverage.
He did that as a direct response to things that happened to the passing game in the Detroit, Chicago, Phil, and New England games.
So he saw an issue and worked on fixing it.
That means he's every bit the coach I think he is. He does not hide from problems or ignore them or act like they don't exist, he takes them on and fixes things.
Bonsignore is good on this:

Remember how Goff struggled two years ago in the playoffs against the Atlanta Falcons, leaving some people to wonder if he simply couldn’t handle a Cover 3 defensive look?
McVay, Goff and the Rams worked all last offseason on improving against the scheme, and in 2018, Goff shredded the Seahawks, Cowboys, Chargers and 49ers, all of whom utilize it.
Similarly, there is no doubt Goff struggled last year operating under pressure and against zone coverage looks — the Super Bowl against the Patriots being the glaring example — which created a narrative that both factors are the keys to slowing him down. The Rams spent a lot of time this past offseason and training camp simulating those situations and defensive looks, and the hope inside their building is that, much like the work they put in against Cover 3, Goff and the Rams will be much better prepared to face the type of defenses the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions and Patriots used against them last year.
If so, expect Goff to take another step forward.
