Speed, I get the perplexion. The cap is a complicated thing.
I know it might not seem possible in light of the recent extensions given to Goff and Higbee. However, Goff's huge extension
doesn't start until the 2021 season so it doesn't even affect next year's cap.
In addition, they have several large contracts falling off the books after this season. Whitworth, Brockers, Fowler, Talib, Littleton, Peters,
and Zuerlein.
So as of this moment per overthecap.com, they have $56M in cap space for the 2020 season. (This is before Higbee's
extension is factored in so it's really approx. $50M.)
Several of the previously mentioned players they will let walk. My bet is Whitworth and Brockers for sure. Their focus has always been
on making 2nd contract players the foundation since they are still in their primes. This means that Littleton, Peters, and Fowler would be
3 in line to be resigned.
