And for all anyone here actually knows, the Rams DO have that....
who is that and can you list the playoff teams and their oline depth charts
I doubt most have all rookies as back ups
Who is that? Neither of us know. (You just assume that means it's no one.)
What is it we know about thse players? They go out as whole inexperienced units while switching positions. That process was designed to coach them up and for all we know, they have 3-4 keepers who will benefit from that.
But in the meanwhile that process also makes them look bad in the short term, hence all the panic.
Here's Kromer on that:
Quote
“You’re going to stink for a couple of months. You’re not going to be good,” Kromer said when asked to explain his initial message to his young linemen to The Athletic. “But don’t worry about getting beat. Just worry about trying the technique. Work the technique. Work the play. Understand the play. And do that more than worrying about how many you won or lost right now because that’s not what it’s all about. It’s about getting better.”
The point is, Kromer knows this process can't make them look good in the short term.
To repeat what that process IS. (1) wholly inexerienced units without unit cohesion, (2) guys switching positions, and (3) coaches telling them to stick with Rams technique even if it doesn't look good at first.
Let's say they find some keepers in that. Which I don't doubt they will. What happens when they come in and replace a starter during the season?
(1) it's one guy joining a cohesive starting OL, and (2) focused on one position, and (3) having already gained experience and worked on technique in preseason games (in fact getting more experience than most backup OL in the league because they played more in the pre-season).
So. What does ANY OF US know about that depth?
Next to nothing. But I look at pre-season games where the OL was never going to look good (because of the whole way the Rams approached it) and DON'T assume that means everyone's bad.
You look at the same games and DO assume everyone's bad.
Which one of us is right? Neither of us have the first clue. Not at this point anyway.
BUT. I am just putting more faith in a top OL coach who has his methods, who has succeeded for a long time, who has started rookies before and did well, and who has an eye for who can play.
That's not a guarantee but it's certainly not NOTHING.
And maybe later I will look up the depth charts of all 12 playoff teams.
For right now I am content with the general idea that OL depth is an issue throughout the league, and the cap doesn't let you keep OL veterans around like teams used to. Maybe there is another team like the Saints that opted to sign veterans for more $$$ as their depth. I doubt it though.
