You aren't saying that YOU think the Rams should have a QB controversy, or swap out Goff and go with Bortles.
You're predicting that Bortles might light it up in preseason, and then if/when Goff isn't perfect, or has some downs to go with his ups, there will be people in the
media (and maybe a few fans, hey, we've got them right here in this thread!) floating the idea of going with Bortles.
I think that's entirely possible, because the media loves a controversy.
And Goff is already a controversial QB with a faction who think he's a top QB and has an even better future, and another faction that thinks he's the product of a system, a coach, a headset, and lots of talent around him.
It's long been a truism that the most popular guy on the team, with the fans, is the backup QB.
Every time the starter stumbles, they can at least imagine that backup QB X would have done it better.
Most of the time they're probably wrong, but occasionally they're right.
I think the only way that Bortles doesn't develop this little fan club is if he looks bad in preseason.
I don't think he will! And I hope he doesn't! I want him to look great.
All that being said, the Rams as an organization aren't going to be affected by that. They're going to stick with Goff.
Ramily!
