Bortles is going to regain his mojo, be better than ever, and he's going to play so much and so well in the preseason that there's going to be a controversy at QB before the season is over.
Let me remind anyone who didn't see him play in college that this young man was a heck of a player.
And he led the Jags nearly to the Superbowl.
It was lousy coaching, a lousy OC, and some pretty bad luck that caused him to be down graded. His rehabilitation under McVay will be a short one.
He is in his prime. And, under McVay he is going to play REALLY well during the preseason. So good, that we're going to hear things like: why pay Goff $30 mil per year when we can probably sign Bortles for 3 years or so for nowhere near that amount?
To be clear: this is not an attack on Goff. I think Goff is a terrific, under rated young QB. He simply gets better every year. He's a grinder and he's as even keeled as it gets. He IS a Superbowl QB.....proven by the fact that he was in the Superbowl last season.
But when Bortles plays as well as I predict he will, plenty of sports writers and fans are going to question the math and wonder if the team wouldn't be better off with perhaps an older and not quite as good, but good enough, Bortles over a younger, better but more expensive Goff.
Plus...... I would suspect the Rams can get at least 2 first rounders for Goff.
Again: not advocating for it. Just saying that my crystal ball says that this sports media viewpoint is going to arise because people have short memories and forget just how good Bortles can be.
I (respectfully) don't agree with any of that.
Goff is a better qb than Bortles and it will show.
Goff is their longterm guy and it will play out that way.
