you contend that gurley was not injured and mcvay was not outcoached. what are you suggesting is the reason for the sb loss?
I believe that, after the NFC Championship game, McVay believed that Goff had transitioned to being a QB that could carry the offense. And why not, right? He (Goff) had just played one of (if not THE) best game of his career against some significant adversity.
Poor NFC Championship performance or not, I suspect that McVay thought that Bellichick was going to game plan against Gurley - just like every other team. I don't believe that McVay thought he needed to be creative to involve Gurley in the game plan (because he felt Goff could carry the load), and simply declined to maximize his full capabilities. I mean, c'mon...only 10 carries
and 2 receiving targets? FOR YOUR BEST OFFENSIVE PLAYER? IN THE SUPER BOWL?Well, Goff and the O-line was overwhelmed in the face of relentless pressure - pressure that a steady dose of Gurley could have relieved IMO.
McVay declined to ride the horse that brought him to this game.
He simply outsmarted himself.
