I think the players are genuinely concerned about the health risks of an 18 game season. Since they stand to make more money if they agreed to an 18 game season they must have a good reason not to go along with it. And the NFLPA would likely get a few hundred more dues-paying members out of an 18-game season and they're against it, too. Why is that, exactly?
And for the record, the players do not set prices for tickets, parking, Sunday Ticket, food, beer, souvenirs, etc. That's all on the owners. (And as has been discussed in another thread, player salaries do not drive up the cost of attending/watching a game, it's actually the other way around. The prices the owners charge increase league revenues, which in turn raises the cap, which in turn allows teams to pay players more.)
As far as ticket prices go I'd like to weigh in as a season ticket holder. Currently I pay $80 a game whether it's preseason or regular season. If the Rams were actually playing all their home games in LA it would cost me $800 for the season. They could charge $40 for each preseason game and $90 for each regular season game for all I care ... it would still cost me $800 for the season.
If an 18 game season seems inevitable to you does mean that we'll be at 20 games at some point? 22? I mean, where do you draw the line? And if you're going to draw the line somewhere why not draw it at 16?
Like I said, we just see this issue differently.
But I stand by my opinion that the 18 game season is inevitable. It’s just a question of time.
