I don't see them that similar at all...it's interesting we see them very differently.
Henderson is a short/stiff/powerful & explosive runner...and somehow plays even faster than times.
Kelly is kinda of avg build, but runs so hard & nasty that he appears bigger in some way. He can make violent yds and has good vision for stopping starting and rolling off blocks & tackles. BUT...Kelly is no homerun hitter....he'll get you the tuff stuff running inside...but he's nuthin like Henderson off tackle or even up the middle with a head of steam.
On Henderson...I am cautiously optimistic....I dunno but I'm not so sure he'll do what he did in college in the NFL. I'm not sure he'll get the lanes/holes, in fact, I pretty sure he won't in the NFL....but that's where McVay/Kromer could really help by designing good run schemes. Either way, when Henderson comes in it will be to spot TGII so he won't get focused on and will have some good opportunities to recreate some of his college runs I would think.
As for Higbee vs Everett? it's kinda like apples & oranges
Higbee was on the trade block last year...soooo...I'm not sure how much they value him.
Yeah, I agree Everett's poor blocking in
many games last year was an issue...but.......Everett sounds like he became good enough in run blocking so he can stay in the base offense...and yes Blanton is the
only blocking type of the 3 new TEs. But if you look at what our TEs have been under McVay it's been 1 blocking type
(Higbee) and 2 receiving type TEs
(Everett & Munt). I think Blanton wins the blocking role....but Everett has gotten better enough to supplant Higbee as the starter...and I see Romello or Brown as replacing Mundt....and Blanton being a cheaper and slightly less talented version of Higbee. We'll see how it shakes out...it'll be fun to watch the PS as all the "rookies" should get plenty of reps in PS games.
