I have a suggestion for Jared Goff.
I was watching some video on Baker Mayfield. One thing that Mayfield does nicely is play action and, in general, playing out a fake looking one way...pumping...then throwing a screen the other way.
Goff's play action is like he's going through the motion and not really trying to "fool" the defense. He sticks the ball out but is 3 yards away from the running back when he pulls it back in and looks to pass. I feel like what did that accomplish because the fake is so...well...fake.
I think early in the season in 2018 it was fine but not later in the season. Plus, my guess is teams had an inkling Gurley wasn't 100% so the feeble fake Goff made wasn't as effective.
We also became less effective in jet sweeps as the season wore on. And for some reason, we seemed to move away from the screen game vs. 2017. In 2017 Goff was pump fake say to the left and turn right and throw a screen.
This may seem small but I think it can go a long way in helping hold the LBs to allow the middle of the field to open up more as well has make the jet sweep and screen game more effective.
My hope is that Goff works on this and looks more committed to following through on the fake. Peyton Manning was really good at this.
